Accommodation deal!

We are happy to announce that delegates of UKROC can take advantage of a special accommodation deal.

We have teamed up with Travelodge to offer a special rate. Delegates can buy “accommodation tickets” for just £25 per night at either the Travelodge at Salford Quays or Manchester Central. These are available on the UKROC Brown Paper Tickets event.

Each ticket will give the holder a bed in either a twin or triple room. Don’t worry, if you want to share with someone specific, we will be asking you in the delegate pre-conference questionnaire and will try our best to make sure you are with friends.

Accommodation is available on the Friday or Saturday night. Beds are limited, so if you want to make sure you get this great rate, buy your tickets now!

Why UKROC?

Tickets for UKROC have been on sale for nearly a week, and we are happy to see that people are already planning to attend the conference.

But for those of you asking why you should attend, here’s just a few reasons:

  • You get two days, jam-packed full of sessions – We are working to create over 15 hours of on and off skates sessions, delivered by some of the top names in roller derby. Our timetable will feature over 30 different sessions. These include panel discussions, face to face chats and hands on learning, designed to help you and your league progress.
  • You can meet league representatives and officials from around the UK – A big part of the feedback we received after last year’s UKROC was that it gave attendees the chance to get together and talk about roller derby. These connections led to games, scrimmages and ongoing relationships and concerted development over the past year.
  • You get a lot of information to take back to your league – Last year, sessions included topics like team cohesion and mental prep, promoting your league, the launch of the UKRDA independent officials membership and face-to-face sessions with the heads of the WFTDA, MRDA and UKRDA. Delegates told us that over the weekend, they learned loads, which they would be taking back to help their league.

Katy Gordon, vice chairperson of the UKRDA, which has been leading the organisation of UKROC, said: “We will be announcing many of our speakers in the next few weeks, but we can tell you just now that we’re working on making this a conference to remember!

You can expect more high quality, informative sessions run by some fantastic figures in UK – and international – roller derby.”

She added: “Roller derby is a sport known for its DIY ethos and we feel it’s important for the UKRDA to help bring leagues together to allow them to work together for the development of our sport.”

But don’t just take our word for it – here’s what some of last year’s delegates had to say:

“You all did an excellent job, I was very impressed and would love to go again next year and make sure other people from my league are interested.”

“Really great job overall, thanks. Very useful and a lot of fun.”
“Great day I left with so much additional enthusiasm for UK roller derby, I wish events like this existed back when my league was first founded. “
“We brought back more than we ever expected…too much, really! Our league is already better off for it so a huge thank you to all who organised and we look forward to next year!”
Thank you so much for all your hard work!”
